HOSPICES de BEAUNE, a hospital founded in the Middle Ages, it is one of France’s most prestigious historical monuments, boasting Flamboyant Gothic architecture, polychrome roofs and a renowned vineyard. Founded in 1443,  it was for the poor that this masterpiece was built. A stunning courtyard, beautiful varnished tile roofs, overhead skylights. The building was built with the most modern and decorative architectural elements of the times. The hospital was created to heal the poor. Care and attention was given not only to the building, but also the medical care, in house pharmacy, and all facilities.

Gift of vineyards were made by the supporters of the hospital as early as 1457, and this tradition was continued for five centuries. Today the wine estate is 60 hectares, 50 of which is Pinot Noir and the rest Chardonnay. The care of the vineyards and winemaking is entrusted   to 22 winemakers handpicked for this task. The vineyards are of exceptional quality, 85% premier crus and grand crus. The wines are sold at auction, according to tradition on the third Sunday in November. The sale, organised yearly by the prestigious Christie’s auction house, is the most famous wine charity in the world. The proceeds of the sale are used to improve the hospital’s equipment and the conservation of the historic monument.
